GALVLE_PHOTO: News ReleaseMay 23, 2017ST. LOUAS, N. J. (May 23, 2017) -The Food and Drug Administration today approved the first generic version of Viagra, the first generic equivalent of Pfizer's Viagra, to treat erectile dysfunction (ED) in men. The new drug will come as a blister pack of 100 tablets containing the active ingredient sildenafil citrate, or generic Viagra, and the generic equivalent of Pfizer's Viagra.
"Today, generic versions of Viagra are available and are being used in the United States," said Janet Woodcock, MD, director of the FDA's Center for Drug Evaluation and Research. "This approval sends a clear message that generic drugs cannot cure ED."
The FDA also noted that the new drug could potentially cause more serious side effects, including chest pain, fainting, vision problems, allergic reactions, and sudden vision loss.
Viagra's active ingredient is sildenafil citrate, or generic, and it works by increasing blood flow to the penis. It is available in 50, 100, and 200 mg doses.

asthma are still a source of livelihood for many; andViagra has been shown to have the potential to contribute to a number of different types of maladies, specifically those caused by nitric oxide production. These include conditions such as angina, heart failure, or liver cirrhosis, among others, which can affect how Viagra works and cause side effects.
Viagra overdoseIn addition, there have been reports of Viagra-containing products being found in some blood pressure medication. These medications include nitrates, isosorbide mononitrate, and guanylate cyclase stimulators such as Riociguat. Riociguat is sometimes prescribed for conditions such as pulmonary hypertension, and it can be used to treat symptoms of pulmonary hypertension in patients with diabetes. Riociguat may be prescribed for conditions such as left ventricular failure, which may require treatment with Viagra, or as an adjunct to other therapies to improve symptoms of these conditions.
In addition, there have been reports of some people developing spontaneous vaginal bleeding after taking Viagra-containing products. These may include conditions such as Peyronie's disease, a heart condition called atopic dermatitis, or an abnormal skin reaction that includes itching, burning, and peeling. Peyronie's disease is characterized by abnormal bleeding from the lining of the nose. Atopic dermatitis, a condition that affects the skin, typically forms when the patient’s skin is sensitive to the sun, and atopic dermatitis can cause the treated area to itch or burn.

The Food and Drug Administration on Thursday approved a new application for a drug to treat erectile dysfunction.
The new drug would increase the blood flow in the male genitals to help men with erectile dysfunction, a condition the agency has said could be linked to the drug.
The FDA will recommend the use of the drug with a maximum of two drugs that are approved to treat sexual dysfunction, according to the agency.
“In this first approval of the new drug, we’ve stated that a drug for the treatment of erectile dysfunction should be used to improve sexual performance in men who have erectile dysfunction,” said FDA commissioner Margaret Hamburg.
“We’ve always said that we’ve put men’s lives at risk. But we haven’t been able to get the FDA to approve this new drug. And that’s why we’ve been working with the agency to ensure that it’s effective, that it’s safe and that it’s taken for the treatment of erectile dysfunction.”
The drug, Viagra, is already on the market for the treatment of erectile dysfunction, but the drug is not yet available in the U. S. because the drug was approved for sale in the country.
The FDA is expected to consider the drug’s approval after it reviews the drug for safety and efficacy.
The FDA also is considering a possible new drug application, which will likely involve a similar drug to that approved for erectile dysfunction.
The FDA has received more than $300 million in funding from state and federal agencies to support the drug development.
According to the latest reports, a study in early December found that Viagra had an increased risk of heart attack and stroke with use of the drug.
“We are pleased that the FDA has approved the new drug application for Viagra,” said John Zepf, senior medical director for the FDA’s Office of Drugs and Medical Devices.
“We continue to work with other health care providers and medical device manufacturers to determine whether a new drug application is appropriate.”
The drug, Viagra, is approved for use by men who have erectile dysfunction.
The drug works by increasing blood flow to the penis during sexual arousal, helping men with erectile dysfunction achieve and maintain an erection.
